# Virtual phone numbers: choose the right kind

A virtual phone number is managed through a number service rather than a conventional physical phone line. The term alone does not establish its carrier type, SMS acceptance or account-verification capabilities. DualLine provides personal second lines, separate OTP services and travel eSIMs with the capabilities stated in each plan.

## Three number arrangements

1. Personal second number

  An app-managed line for supported personal communication.
2. Service-specific OTP

  A temporary number for the chosen verification service.
3. Mobile eSIM number

  A number included in an eligible carrier eSIM package.

Choose the arrangement by its capabilities and access period, not just the label “virtual”.

## Keep personal conversations separate

A second number can give personal conversations their own place without replacing the everyday SIM. For supported communication through a selected DualLine line, the recipient sees the DualLine number.

Information you share in a conversation or through another service can still identify you. A separate number is not a promise of complete anonymity.

## Choose the capabilities you need

Check whether the selected number supports the calls and messages you intend to use. Country, number range and the service's features can change the available communication.

For account verification, choose the target service explicitly. An ongoing second-line subscription and a one-time code quote are different purchases.

## Plan the access period

A subscription or eSIM purchase does not create indefinite ownership of a number. Read the current duration, cancellation and continuation details before relying on future access.

## Use the same phone appropriately

An app-managed second line needs the supported app and internet. An eSIM package additionally requires compatible phone hardware and the intended SIM configuration.

Choose the data, call and message lines deliberately when combining a travel eSIM with your main number. The product providing internet need not be the number identifying every app account.

## Choose a WhatsApp-specific option

## Common questions

Does “virtual number” always mean a mobile eSIM?

No. An app-managed number, a temporary OTP product and an installed mobile eSIM are different arrangements.

Can I use a virtual second number without another SIM?

A supported app-managed second line uses internet. It does not require replacing the main SIM.

Can it receive every verification code?

Receiving services apply their own rules. Choose the service-specific product and check the selected number's capabilities.

Is a temporary number suitable for long-term account access?

A one-time number provides temporary access. Compare an ongoing number arrangement when later verification is important.

Does the recipient see my everyday number?
